In Memory of Steven Wise

Friends and supporters of NAVS:

As you may already know, one of the most prominent voices for animals, and our good friend, Steven Wise, passed away recently. We at NAVS are deeply saddened by the news and we now feel a void that losing such a heroic figure has created.

Steven was a brave, persistent, and thoughtful advocate for all animals. Whether it was in the courtroom or on bookshelves, Steven’s mission was to not only fight for the rights of animals, but to share the mission with anyone who would hear it.

Through the years, NAVS and Steven had a close, collaborative relationship that helped begin his Non-Human Rights Project, which fought for a better world for animals and humans, who benefit from better science without animals.

Because of Steven’s work, the fight to liberate animals from research and give them opportunities to experience loving homes became more realistic by the day. Steven carved out legal pathways for animals using detailed scientific arguments that helped lay a foundation for NAVS and many others in the fight to end animal research.

We are beyond grateful for the man that he was, and the mission that he carried out. Our thoughts are with everyone whose life was made better by his enthusiasm for justice, compassion, and respect, but especially his family, friends, and colleagues.
