Our Charity Ratings

What Our Charity Ratings Mean for Donors

The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) has earned the highest levels of recognition offered by the nation’s top charity watchdog organizations.

NAVS’ 4-Star rating on Charity Navigator indicates that we are a highly-effective charity, as determined by the platform’s rating methodology. Four stars are reserved for nonprofits that meet or exceed best practices and industry standards across areas including: accountability and finance, leadership and adaptability, culture and community, and impact and measurement. Charity Navigator has rated more than 225,000 nonprofits. Their metrics inform donors of not just where their dollars are going, but the impact their dollars are having through the organizations they support.

NAVS additionally holds status as a Top-Rated Nonprofit on GreatNonprofits, the leading platform for community-sourced stories about charities. To date, NAVS has received nearly 170 top-tier reviews, accolades, expressions of gratitude, and stories of inspiration from the individuals who know our work best – our donors, volunteers, professional partners, animal advocates, and informed members of the public – those individuals who have experienced the positive impact of our work firsthand.

NAVS’ Platinum Seal of Transparency through Candid GuideStar, the world’s largest source of data on nonprofits, underscores our accountability for measuring the progress we’re making toward our mission year-over-year, and to sharing our results with the public. According to data reported by GuideStar, just 80,000 nonprofits of the 1.7 million registered with the IRS have earned a Seal. As of 2023, NAVS is among a select group of less than 1% of Seal recipients to be recognized at the Platinum level.

NAVS’ Seal of Excellence from America's Best Charities is awarded to charitable organizations that meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. Applicant charities must provide evidence of their program activities and demonstrate the benefit of their services. As part of the review process, NAVS provides our annual IRS tax returns with all schedules; as well as financial statements produced by an independent certified public accountant, including an auditor's confirmation that our charity meets generally accepted accounting standards in the United States.

Collectively, and above all, the National Anti-Vivisection Society’s charity ratings demonstrate our commitment to you – our invaluable supporters. Your trust and confidence in our work mean everything, as our work would not be possible without you.
