Advancing the Well-being of Lab Animals: A Letter from New Executive Director Sally Draper

Greetings to all supporters of NAVS! It has only been a couple of weeks since I started work as the new executive director, but I have been looking forward to this first opportunity to communicate with you

Greetings to all supporters of NAVS! It has only been a couple of weeks since I started work as the new executive director, but I have been looking forward to this first opportunity to communicate with you. I hope that in my time here we will have plenty of engaging, thoughtful conversations and back and forth dialogue, but before we can do that, I thought it would be important for you, our incredible supporters, to hear from me directly about our next chapter.

I could tell you all about the different stops in my career and how my time there has prepared me for this role, but the truth is that this role is unique from anything else that I’ve done before. I am very proud of what I’ve been able to achieve in building up other national non-profits, most often in the healthcare space, and I do believe that my career qualifications will help me advance the mission of NAVS. But NAVS and its mission are not simply about a bottom line or corporate buzzwords. It is about saving the lives of countless animals, brutally exploited for archaic purposes, and in turn advancing human health in the process. Our challenge requires complex solutions that go beyond a simple resume and career qualifications.

At NAVS, my goal is to help drive change and build upon the 95 years of deliberate progress you and other supporters have made possible. We will continue to invest in the programs that have helped advance our cause in labs, classrooms, sanctuaries, and legislatures. Our team will have my full support to address each area in thoughtful, innovative, and dynamic ways. And rest assured, we will continue to ensure that every one of your generously donated dollars, and each of your intentional advocacy actions, is producing the greatest impact on animals in labs and sanctuaries.

I could not be more excited about the future with NAVS, our incredible team, and our dedicated supporters. Together, as a team, we are making tangible progress. Thank you for your steadfast support of our mission to advance science without harming animals.

I look forward to engaging more with you all soon! Thank you for welcoming me to this great organization and for being a part of what is to come.

Sincerely,

Sally Draper
