An Update from Our Friends at Kindness Ranch
When dogs arrive at Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary after being released from research, their first stop is Henry’s Landing—a quiet transition space where they can decompress, receive medical care, enjoy a nourishing meal and experience gentle human attention.
Thanks to a grant from NAVS’ Animal Sanctuary Assistance Program (ASAP) and the generosity and hard work of the Kindness Ranch community, Henry’s Landing now features new flooring designed to make those first days safer and more comfortable.
The improved surface will help staff keep the space clean and sanitary while providing a more reassuring environment for dogs adjusting to life beyond the laboratory. It also gives Kindness Ranch greater flexibility: when the sanctuary’s dog yurts are full, Henry’s Landing can now serve as a longer-term housing space. That added capacity means more dogs formerly used in research can be welcomed into care.
After their initial stay at Henry’s Landing, dogs generally move into one of the sanctuary’s yurts, where they live with a dedicated caretaker and a small group of other dogs. There, they continue to heal, build confidence and prepare for adoption.
Henry’s Landing is named for a beagle formerly used in research whose story demonstrates the profound bond that can develop between these animals and the people who welcome them home. The facility carries his legacy forward by offering every new arrival a compassionate beginning.
