NAVS is proud to announce a recent grant to Fauna Sanctuary, Inc. for the purchase of vital blood pressure monitoring equipment that will help care for aging chimpanzees.
Located in Canada, Fauna Sanctuary provides a safe haven for older chimpanzees who require specialized medical care as they age. Heart health is a major concern and leading disease in captive chimpanzees, making regular blood pressure monitoring essential for their well-being.
“NAVS is dedicated to using our donors’ funds to fund lifesaving and critical work,” said NAVS Senior Manager of Operations Kim Ayala. “Fauna Sanctuary is providing its residents with top quality care and compassion, and we are proud to assist in that work.”
Through consultation with their veterinarians and experts at The GreatApe Heart Project, the sanctuary identified the specific equipment needed to accurately assess blood pressure in their residents.
Fauna Sanctuary, founded in 2002, is dedicated to providing chimpanzees with a quality life through the development and maintenance of physical, emotional, and social environments that promote their well-being and meet their needs as much as possible within captivity.
