From Lab to Sanctuary: Seven Lives Changed for Good

A heartwarming video, capturing their first steps outside of the lab.

Because of NAVS supporters, seven animals who once knew only confinement and uncertainty are now safe, loved, and free.

Through our Animal Sanctuary Assistance Program (ASAP), NAVS was able to provide critical funding to Beagle Freedom Project (BFP) to rescue three alpacas, two goats, and two rabbits from a research facility and transport them across the country to sanctuary. This was not a simple journey. It required extensive travel, coordination, and care. And it happened because people like you made it possible.

The video below captures what that transformation looks like in real time. The long drive, the first steps out of the lab, and the beginning of new lives at Freedom Fields, a former research facility that Beagle Freedom Project transformed into a sanctuary for hundreds of animals formerly used in research.

For Darlene, Monty, Theodore, Percy, Stanley, Taffy, and Cider, this moment marks the end of fear and the start of something entirely new. At Freedom Fields, they will receive the space, medical care, enrichment, and companionship they were previously denied, finally experiencing safety and trust for the first time.

NAVS has been proud to support Beagle Freedom Project since the opening of Freedom Fields, including earlier grants that helped provide medical care for hundreds of cats and dogs rescued from research. This latest grant continues that partnership, ensuring that when animals need help urgently—whether due to a lab closure, a long-distance rescue, or an unexpected crisis—BFP has the resources to say yes.

That’s exactly why ASAP exists: to be there in the moment when action can’t wait. Rescue organizations face emergencies every day, and with the backing of NAVS supporters, they can step in and save lives that would otherwise be left behind.

This rescue is proof of what’s possible when compassion is matched with action. And it’s just one of many stories you help write through your support of NAVS.

If you’re moved by what you see here, we invite you to help make the next rescue possible. Your donation today ensures that when the next call comes, offering another chance at freedom, NAVS will be ready to answer it.

Together, we can help more animals leave labs for good and begin the lives they deserve.
